how do i take care of my new java fern?

I have a 55 gallon aquarium, I just included plastic plants for Java fern. How to take care of it?

Not much to do, really - they are generally very hardy plants. Just make sure it gets enough light for proper quality.

If you fish in the aquarium, they will look after fertilization and CO2.

Keeping and Breeding the Indian Glassfish

This glassfish has a double dorsal fin, a long-based anal fin and a large double-lobed caudal fin, all of which are transparent. Because of the myth that Indian glassfish prefer brackish water, many fish stores set them up in brackish conditions (specific gravity 1. This limits the popularity of this pretty little fish, since brackish aquariums  are set up less frequently than freshwater aquariums. Young male and female fish are very similar, but when mature, males tend to have slightly larger dorsal and anal fins, which are edged in gray. The Indian glassfish (aka glass perch) is a relatively deep-bodied, laterally compressed fish that can grow to 3 inches. This fish also does well in neutral, soft freshwater. Glassfish live in shoals and prefer a well-vegetated habitat that provides shelter. For the most part, it comes from a freshwater habitat, though sometimes it is also found in brackish water.

I've got algae - too much lights? - Aquarium Forum - Fish Forum ...

You'll notice most people get BBA or tough spot algae on the hardware close to the light surface, that is due to the light sitting right on top of the tank. By raising the lights and using stronger light sources (with CFLs its really easy), you narrow the difference in par from the top of the tank to the bottom. Reason being is you need light to limit the plant growth, the moment you let nutrients or carbon limit plant growth, algae happens. For non co2, your options are go complete low tech, or to use a co2 substitute, which are mentioned in the co2 stickies. That is why you see many tanks with their light sources sometimes a foot or more off the surface. They may have the perfect light level lower in the tank, but the difference is substantial as you get closer to the surface....
